HISTORICAL GROWTH OF POPULATION

The municipality of San Jorge has a total population of 8,564 in 1970 as per National Statistics Office (NSO) census gathered in the mid year. These population increased to 193 in the next census year 1975, registering an average growth rate of 0.45%. The increasing trend was maintained until the census year of 1980 where the population was increased by 366, registering an average growth rate of 0.82%. Figures showed increases from then until the census year 1990. Figures for 1990 showed a total of 10,111, an increase of 988, registering an average growth rate of 1.03%. The next census year was in 1995.  Figures for 1995 showed a total of 11,935, an increased of 1,824, registering an average growth rate of 3.37%.  The last census conducted was in 2000.  Figures for 2000 showed a total of 13,376, an increased of 1,441, registering, an average growth rate of 2.31%.

Over-all trend is increasing as reflected in the table below.

POPULATION DISTRIBUTION

          The current total population of 13,376 (as per 2000 NSO Official Census) is distributed all over the municipality covering three (3) urban barangays or the Poblacion barangays and thirty eight (38) rural barangays.  Urban population has a total of 1,892 or 14.14% of the total population, while rural population has a total of 11,484 or 85.86% of the total population.  Among the urban barangays Mancol is the most thickly populated, while San Jorge II (Poblacion) is the least populated.  For the rural barangays, Erenas, Blanca Aurora and La Paz are the most thickly populated, while barangays Cabugao, Calundan, Hernandez, Libertad and Rawis are the least populated.

POPULATION BY AGE GROUP

San Jorge appears to be a municipality of relatively young people. At the age grouping, 7,731 are classified to be nineteen (19) years and below representing 52.75% of the total projected population of 2004. The age bracket between 20 to 44 accounts for 4,518 or 30.83% of the total population and 45 years old and above accounts for 2,406 or 16.42% of the total population. The highest number of age group fall within 5-9 years old numbering to 2,000 or 13.65% of the total 2004 projected population of the municipality. (Please refer to table)
